A telegraph was dispatched to announce the arrival of the train carrying President Ulysses S. Grant on the morning of September 15, 1871. The train would arrive in Kittanning at 12:40 PM. Some of the Civil War Men from Kittanning who had served under then General Grant at Vicksburg, Mississippi, hastily assembled to greet him at this station.
